What We Believe About Jesus Christ

There are many people that have a vague belief in God, but completely refuse to accept Jesus as anything more than a great teacher. However, when we dig into the Bible, we find that both the Old and New Testaments proclaim the deity of the One who came to save, to reign and someday return. You can’t straddle the fence, calling Jesus “just a good teacher,” because the Bible clearly calls Him our Lord.

Jesus Himself declared His royalty in no uncertain terms, by calling himself the Son of Man, the Messiah.

So… What do we believe about Jesus Christ?

The church where I serve and call home, First Christian Church – Sandpoint Idaho, has a well thought out doctrinal statement about what they believe about Jesus Christ, that summarizes how I believe very well.

We believe that Jesus was miraculously born of the Virgin Mary (Matthew 1:20; Luke 1:35) and became flesh and blood (John 1:1-16; 29-34) without ceasing to be God. He lived a sinless life and performed many miracles to confirm His divinity. He died on the cross as a perfect sacrifice, paying the debt for our sins (Mark 10:45). On the third day after His death He arose from the dead showing His victory over sin and death (1 Corinthians 15:3-8). He appeared to His disciples and then ascended into heaven and now sits at the right hand of God serving as our mediator (1 Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 9:15).

The Bible gives us many reasons why you should believe Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. So, continue to study the Bible and learn more about and grow closer to our savior Jesus Christ. Then go out and put what you learn into action. Make God’s story your story!
