Nothing Impure Will Enter

Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life. Rev. 21:27

A friend asked me about this verse and why it says, “Nothing impure” instead of “No one impure” … I believe to enter the New Jerusalem believers will have no impure thing remaining in them. They shall be cleansed from everything that is of a defiling nature. So… the “nothing” here is anything and everything that is of a defiling nature…

Furthermore, all the glory and honor of the nations shall be brought into the New Jerusalem. Whatever is excellent and valuable in this world will be there to enjoy in a more refined way, and to a far greater extent, a better and more enduring essence, sweeter and more satisfying feasts, a more glorious and truer sense of honor, a more magnificent temperament of mind, and a form and an appearance more glorious than ever known in this world. Believers will have no impure thing remaining in them. They shall be cleansed from everything that is of a defiling nature.

In this world, we believers feel the sadness of corruption, which hinders us in serving God. It interrupts our communion with Him, and intercepts His light of truth. Then believers are washed in the blood of Christ, and presented to the Father spotless. In the new Jerusalem, there is a society perfectly pure, free from anything profane.

In the churches on this earth sometimes offensive things are done, ordinances that are openly vicious, for a worldly end. These creep into the churches here on earth, and may lie concealed there a long time, but they cannot intrude into the New Jerusalem, which is wholly reserved for those that are called, and chosen, and faithful, who are all written, not only in the register of the visible church, but in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

Remember…. This does not imply that those outside the New Jerusalem will be refused entry at the gates. The gates will remain open at all times because only the redeemed and sinless inhabit the new heaven and new earth. These are the overcomers of all history, including those that during the Tribulation refused to worship the beast and Jesus promised the overcomers that their names would not be blotted out of the Book of Life.
